Job Advert – Clerk to the Council

Can you help Itchen Stoke and Ovington for 70 hours a year?

If you have the passion to help a local community, then you definitely can! Itchen Stoke and Ovington Parish Council is looking for a new Clerk/Responsible Financial Officer, the individual who acts as the golden thread that binds the council and community together. This enthusiastic person, ideally with connections to the parish, will be responsible for driving the business of the council from start to finish.

You will be involved in initial correspondence, advising on discussions and policy setting in meetings, and co-ordinating any subsequent actions, looking after council financial records and ensuring the careful administration of its finances. You’ll make sure the council does the right things, helping everyone in the parish in an effective and efficient manner. Without you, the council couldn’t function!

If you think you can do the following, please send in your application:

Receive and respond to correspondence on behalf of the parish council; Prepare agendas and background information for parish council meetings; Attend parish council meetings and draw up minutes; Monitor and balance the council’s accounts and prepare records for audit and VAT purposes; Issue and receive invoices, making sure any accounts are met and accurate reporting is made to council

Through this role, you can make a real difference to your community!

Dementia Support – Hampshire & IOW is a new charity that has been set up by local people with lived experience, to respond to the needs of local people living with dementia and their family carers. The charity provides free emotional support, information, and signposting for anyone and everyone living with dementia in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. A New Defribrillator - At the Rear of The Bush Inn

The Parish Council would like to thank the management of The Bush Inn for allowing them to install a defibrillator in the Parish.  It can be found at the rear entrance, the nearest access from the car park and best placed for an electricity supply.  It is housed in a locked cabinet. In an emergency dial 999 and give the postcode written on the front of the cabinet. The code to unlock it will be provided. Members of The Bush Inn management team are to receive training along with all Members of the Parish Council, although it is a semi automatic model and will talk you through the process of its use. This purchase was made using Community Infrastructure Levy funds received from the South Downs National Park Authority in October 2020. The remaining funds will go towards maintenance and spare parts for the defibrillator.

Community Food Pantry 

At the Unit 12 Community Food Pantry, we’ve got stocks of cupboard food and fresh food (as well as a number of key items like nappies) and help dozens of families every week with their food shopping when finances have got a bit tight. We get stock from key supermarkets and the quality of the food is often excellent. To use the pantry, there’s no referral or paperwork needed, just turn up, pay £5 and get a whole week’s worth of shopping. Everyone is very welcome, whatever your circumstances! Spitfire Pilots' Memoral - Installed by the Alresford Historical & Literary Society.

The Parish Council along with other organisations supported the Society's project to install a memorial on Land at Folly Hill to the Spitfire Pilots who lost their lives there.  Stan Upton's eye witness account can be accessed using the QR code below. 

 

The Parish Council has recently replaced the wooden bench opposite the bus shelter in Itchenstoke. In July 2018 the Council donated three new bench seats to the Parish Churchyards. One to St. Peter's, Ovington and two to St Mary's, Itchen Stoke.  The old and worn out bench near the River at Water Lane has also been replaced.  These capital projects were undertaken using Section 106 Developer Contributions.

BT Kiosk Refurbishment in Itchen Stoke

Following the excellent refurbishment of the K6 kiosk in Ovington undertaken by Cllrs Barry Norgate and Philip Cartwright in 2017, our two experts kindly agreed to refurbish the K6 kiosk in Itchen Stoke over the Summer of 2018, with some finishing touches added by Cllr John Harvey. We are sure you will agree they have provided another sterling job for the enjoyment of the Parish and the Parish Council would like to publicly thank them for their hard work. 

Winchester City Council Lifeline Service

A press button or neck pendant lifeline service is available to vulnerable residents living in the Winchester District.  For more information go to WCC. 

Winchester City Council Handyperson Service

The Handy Person Service offers small repairs and adaptations at a subsidised rate to those who qualify in the Winchester District. To use the service clients need to be either over 60 years of age/living with a disability or both.  The scheme is open to Winchester City Council tenants/Housing Association tenants/Homeowners and private tenants.  The hourly rate charged depends on whether a client is in receipt of means tested benefits (£9.60) or not (£18)  More information can be found in our News Section.

Our Parish 

Itchen Stoke and Ovington Parish Council is one of the smaller Parish Councils in the Winchester District. It includes the villages of Itchen Stoke and Ovington and the small hamlet of Abbotstone. The villages lie in the valley of the River Itchen, some 2 miles west of Alresford and 5 miles north east of Winchester. There are 185 voters on the Electoral Roll (April 2019). Much of the Parish lies within the South Downs National Park and is defined by outstanding countryside which supports predominantly arable, dairy and sheep farming, a rich and varied wildlife and offers great amenity to fishermen, walkers and cyclists alike.
